I think articles like this are a little hyperbolic and negative.
Industries get bigger and smaller – and I do feel like too many people entered tech all around the same time.
So now we have more supply then demand.
But a large portion of that supply isn't prepared enough to actually work in tech.
I'm also not going to blame bootcamps – I've seen VERY talented designers come from bootcamps.
But, it is a format that requires a LOT of self-direction, willpower, etc.
So I've also seen a lot of people come out of bootcamp thinking that by just barely doing the coursework they were guaranteed jobs at Google.
The jobs I had before tech were harder and payed about 15% of what I make working in tech.
I also am not interested in blaming "tech." The idea that tech workers aren't treated well enough when we have SO MANY INDUSTRIES that abuse their employees is wild.
If you want to talk about core issues, lets talk about capitalism, lack of safety nets, etc. – but tech is doing a lot better then many other industries at keeping people employed with living wages.
(I have been laid off before [with a 6-month old baby], so I am not just some super lucky guy who's had a smooth sailing tech career.)
